The TORBAY INTER-FAITH FORUM exists to bring together people who are interested in learning more about the beliefs and practises of different Faiths. The Forum aims to foster greater understanding and friendship between people from different Faith groups, and to encourage among the general public a greater appreciation of the rich diversity of belief and practice within our own society and beyond.

Dear friends and supporter,
There are just a few news items we take this opportunity to share with you:
First of all, our Chairman, Revd Brian Packer of the Unitarian Church, some months ago requested that he be replaced on the steering Committee due to the other responsibilities he has for his church and the extensive area he is responsible for in Devon. Besides this, Brian now spends much of his time down in Plymouth. However, the Unitarian community in Torbay will continue to be represented in the membership of our Forum, either by Brian or his wife, Kathy, whenever they are able to join us. We warmly appreciate Brian's efforts on behalf of our Forum since be became our Chairman some years ago, and wish him well as his responsibilities increase. The role of Chairman has been accepted by Mrs. Heather Savini, who has been a stalwart supporter of the Forum since its inception in the early 1980s.
Among its activities during the year, the Forum was delighted to organise two inter-Faith celebrations: The first took place on 30 January 2005, hosted by Revd Brian Packer at the Unitarian Church, Torquay. The theme chosen was "Compassion and Cooperation". More recently, however, we were able to arrange a second Inter-Faith Celebration during "One World Week" in October attended by representatives of seven major world religions in Torbay. This event, which we hope may become an annual feature of "One World Week" in Torbay, took place at the Central Church, Torquay. The program was arranged around stories and music from the different traditions on the spiritual aspects of the theme, "Promises! Promises! - Making Poverty History". The address during the program was given by the Chairman of Torbay Council, Councillor Peter Killick, who stressed the need for co-operation and respect between people of faith and of no faith alike, in order to build bridges within the community for the enrichment and benefit of all. At the end of the program those participating in this event were invited to pen their thoughts and aspirations for the planet on "post-it's"; these were then stuck on a large plastic "World". A wonderful spirit of warmth and fellowship marked the whole event.
We very much hope that, during the coming year the work of the Torbay InterFaith Forum will continue to expand and embrace more people from all the church and faith communities in our area. To this end we have recently applied for a small grant towards our funding, and we hope our application will be successful.
Your continued support is warmly appreciated - please telephone one of the following for more information about our activities.
