Torbay
– Hameln Churches Following the successful Spring 2002 visit by friends from the churches of Hameln a party representing the Torbay churches and their friends visited Hameln during the Spring Bank Holiday week 2004 (28 May to 06 June). We stayed as guests of German families and members of the Evangelical Lutheran Münster St Bonifatius of Hameln. We look forward to the return visit by our German friends which will take place some time during 2006 when Torbay families will be required to act as hosts. Our journey commenced from Paignton during the evening of Friday 28 May. We travelled by luxury coach, through the Channel Tunnel in the early hours of Saturday 29 May, then on through France, Belgium and Holland arriving in Hameln at teatime to be welcomed by our German hosts. The purpose of our visit was to encourage church families and individuals and friends of our two communities to have fellowship together and to form a lasting bond of friendship between us - some of us have already experienced the warmth of German hospitality. A programme of events was organised in consultation with our German friends and we enjoyed sharing with them outings to places of interest as well as social events. There was an opportunity to see the 'Pied Piper' play performed in the town by local townsfolk on the Sunday morning after worship. On Saturday 05 June 2004 we took part in special celebrations to mark the 1250th Anniversary of the martyrdom of St Boniface. We started our return journey on Saturday 05 June at 21.00 arriving back on Sunday 06 June at 14.00. Click here to contact us about our links with Hameln.
