Visit to friends in Hameln - the town of the 'Pied Piper' (der Rattenfänger)

During the successful Autumn 2006 visit by friends from the Evangelical Lutheran Münster St Bonifatius of Hameln an invitation was given for a group representing the churches of Torbay to visit Hameln during the Spring Bank Holiday week 2008 (23 May to 01 June). The invitation was accepted and a party representing the Churches of Paignton and their friends travelled to Hameln to be welcomed as guests in the homes of members of the Evangelical Lutheran Münster St Bonifatius of Hameln congregation and other church congregations in and around Hameln.
From the beginning it has been the purpose of such visits to encourage church families and individuals and friends of our two communities to have fellowship together and to form a lasting bond of friendship between us - many of us had previously experienced the warmth of German hospitality. A programme of events (click to view the Programme) was organised in consultation with our German friends and we shared with them outings to places of interest as well as enjoying social events together. We also had the opportunity to watch the 'Pied Piper' play performed in the town by local townsfolk on the Sunday morning after worship.
During the Farewell Party hosted by our Hameln friends we were able to give an invitation for them to make a return visit to Paignton sometime in 2010 which we very much look forward to.
