A message from Revd Dermot Thornberry ....

Dear Friends

THANKS

Charlene and I have been with you for 9 months and it has gone by quickly.  Thank you for all your very genuine love, support and “open door” friendship.  We will never stop acknowledging the hard work many are engaged in to keep the life of the church going.

In June we will be moving into our new manse.  (24 Borough Park Avenue)  It is near the junction of the ring road and Totnes Rd.  The house is a 1930s semi-detached property in a cul de sac.  A major feature of the house is that it has a downstairs extension (formerly a bedroom) which is perfect for my office.  At the moment my office is on the bottom level of the house – 35 stairs below the top floor!  Another added feature is that the property is on one level (not a popular feature of Paignton) with a back garden for our retrievers Maggie and Fergus.  The house is also much closer to town.

Charlene and are thinking of calling the house “Sawu bona” which is Zulu greeting.  The English equivalent is “hello”.  However literally translated it means “I see you”.  It’s is saying that when you see “me” you bring me into existence.  For us it is important that people matter.  Sometimes we can be caught up too much in organisation and agenda at the expense of people.  We hope that we reflect an invitation for you to come and share in our new home.

The past year has been a year of settling into life in Paignton.  The Day with the Angels has prompted some projects.  We are considering the idea of “Pew Pastors”.  Where “Pastors will be called to look after a number of pews each Sunday.  A new Short termed “Disciple” course is on the cards for September or October.  We are also thinking about a “Pet’s Service” and someone has come forward suggesting a “John and Charles Wesley” themed services.

In September I will have the added task of looking after Victoria Park and Irene Cochrane will be also be involved in this new venture as Pastoral Support.  Please keep Revd Val Price in your prayers as she retires.  Her farewell service in the form of a Circuit service is on 18 Sunday July at 6.30.

In conclusion let us be remember that we have just celebrated the Easter season.  We have been shown that God is bigger than we think and works in the lives of each person – Read Psalm 104:30.

‘When you send your spirit they are created and you renew the face of the earth’.

Every blessing to you and yours,

Dermot
