'Fighting poverty through trade'A simple statement, it leads into the complex organisation that Traidcraft is today. It means .....
Millions of families in developing countries don't get a fair share of the wealth created by their own skill and effort and the resources of their land. This is largely because of the way international trade is controlled by the rich countries. It's a system which is both unjust and a major cause of continuing world poverty. Traidcraft is working to change this injustice, by creating opportunities - for the poor in the "third world" to work their way to a better quality of life, and for people here to join a movement for change that's working for the fairer conduct of international trade. For producers in the "third world" trading fairly means a number of things:
These are just a few reasons why fair trade is such a challenging, revolutionary and important idea, and why we must encourage people to join the fight for justice in international trade. You can do your bit by asking to be shown the selection of 'FairTrade' items at your local Supermarket. If they do not have any 'FairTrade' items ask why not! E-mail us for more information about Traidcraft and fairly traded goods.
Traidcraft - New Catalogue The popularity of the Chocolate Lover’s Gift Set means that tea and coffee lovers now have their own gift sets too. Both sets include ceramic ware from Thailand, hand-painted with the attractive Winter Berries design, which also features in the new range of plates and snack bowls. There is also a treat for chocolate fans with the introduction of Divine Mint Thins to the catalogue range. Make sure you try the new organic herbal teas. Masala Chai, caffeine free Rooibos and Jasmine Green tea will refresh your tastebuds, with the added bonus of knowing that they are fairly traded. Now you can use Fairtrade cotton for your everyday cosmetic, baby and healthcare needs with the introduction of 100% Fairtrade-certified cotton cosmetic pads. Available in round and square pads, these are specially produced with a soft surface that will not fluff or lint, making them ideal for contact lens wearers. Pressed flower designer Anna Liza Largo-Aquilor, who features in the autumn catalogue, explains: “I am proud to be a SHAPII designer. It is especially nice when I see my work in the fair trade catalogues and meet the buyers who sell them to people in far-away places. When they tell us they like our designed items, our self-esteem really grows. Imagine - we make so many people happy! We not only have a livelihood, we also are able to give joy!” Visit our Traidcraft Stall in the Church Hall at Palace Avenue every Sunday after the morning service or E-mail us for more information about Traidcraft and fairly traded goods.
