Isambard Kingdom Brunel - 1806 to 1859

Official Opening by Cllr John Dunn - Chairman of Torbay Council    The rush to get in!

Window 1 - Birth Of A Golden Age - Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born at Portsmouth on 09 April 1806 - Flower Arrangement by Anne Mills for Singing Together Group     Window 2 - Bridges - Brunel built bridges - Lots of them! - Flower Arrangement by Paul Saunders    Window 3 - Railways - This window celebrates Brunel's westcountry railways and depicts a railway cutting with an example of the pumping-stations that were built to operate the ill fated atmospheric railway scheme - Flower Arrangement by Pam Harvey for Sunday School    Window 4 - Brunel's Marriage - On 05 July 1836 Brunel married Mary Horsley and the couple set up home at 18 Duke Street, Westminster. They had three children: Isambard, Florence Mary and Henry Marc - Flower Arrangement by Rosemary Mitchell for FAB Club

Window 5 - Box Hill Tunnel - Brunel brought the Great Western Railway to Devon and Cornwall building bridges, viaducts, cuttings and tunnels - Flower Arrangement by Paignton Gardening Club    Window 6 - Ships - The Brunel ships were the S.S. Great Western, the S.S. Great Britain and the S.S. Great Eastern - Fower Arrangement by Ian Doggett for Men's Breakfast    Window 7 - Brunel Manor - the Watcombe Estate - Brunel Manor in Torquay was to have been the house of Brunel's dreams - Flower Arrangement by Freda Nason and Jenny Scales for Women's Fellowship    Window 8 - Bridges and Boats - Clifton Suspension Bridge and S.S. Great Britain both located in Bristol - Flower Arrangement by Ann Roberts

Window 9 - Brunel's Death - Brunel died on 15 September 1859 and was buried in buried at Kensal Green cemetery - Flower Arrangement by Viv Westmoreland for Factory Row    Window 10 - Brunel's Dream - Brunel the workaholic did not live to see his retirement home completed - Flower Arrangement by Sylvia Tancock
