THOUGHT For the Month

When we speak God hears us, when we pray God listens.
Our prayers are always answered but not always in the way we expect.

Prayer Request FormWe are a caring, sharing church family and we invite you to share your thoughts and concerns with us by making a Prayer Request.

"God understands every human language. Remaining close to him in silence is already prayer: your lips remain closed but your heart is speaking to him. And, by the Holy Spirit, Christ prays in you more than you can imagine."
Brother Roger of Taizé

Thought for the Month

A Woman anoints Jesus with perfume

John 12 v1 – 7

Jesus replied, “Leave her alone.  She did this in preparation for my burial.  You will always have the poor among  you, but you will not always have me.”

This started me thinking about the “poor”.  In Jesus` day life was much simpler than today.  People lacked what were basic needs then.  Today what we consider as basic needs are far different.  There seems to be much more poverty, not only throughout the world but in Britain itself despite our country being considered rich.

But are our “needs “ often confused as “wants”?

Are “must haves” regarded as “needs”?

Are our priorities correct?

Are we motivated by subtle marketing ploys into thinking we must have this latest item, whereas what we may already have be quite adequate?

Are people pressured by others into thinking they must have items to be like their peers?

Many enter into obligations leading to debt crisis following  decisions made for the  best of reasons, thinking they are for the family`s betterment?

Please Lord give us wisdom to make wise decisions.

We thank you, Lord, for all the people who give and operate the increasing number of food banks.

We thank you, Lord, for all who help people with debt crisis management.

We thank you, Lord, for all social services people and charities who try to help those needing housing and other services.

Please, Lord, hear our prayers,
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour,

Amen.

"Prayer is a serene force at work within human beings, stirring them up, transforming them, never allowing them to close their eyes in the face of evil, of wars, of all that threatens the weak of this world. From it we draw energy to wage other struggles - to enable our loved ones to survive, to transform the human condition, to make the earth a fit place to live in."
