When we speak God hears us, when we pray God listens. Our prayers are always answered but not always in the way we expect. Our church is open for prayer and meditation each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 10.00 to 12.00. Whether you wish to pray or just sit in the quiet, you are welcome. Alternatively, click to leave a message if you would like us to pray for you or a particular situation. We will pray for you at our next prayer meeting. "God understands every human language. Remaining close to him in silence is already prayer: your lips remain closed but
your heart is speaking to him. And, by the Holy Spirit, Christ prays in you more
than you can imagine."
Prayer is the channel that develops our relationship with God. We can pray in a huge variety of ways, whether it's by ourselves or together with others, either in a small group or as part of a church congregation. Often we use words when we pray but there are many other, equally effective, ways too. Through silence, music, pictures and images, we can pray both expressing our thoughts to God and listening for what God wants to say to us. As part of this wide range of ways of praying, or responding to God, we are offering prayer for individual people at the end of some morning services. This is important for a number of reasons:
These are some of the reasons and purposes why prayer ministry is now being offered at Paignton (Palace Avenue) Methodist Church. Our prayer ministry team have all undergone some training and meet regularly to support and pray for one another. This is important because it is essential that we are being prayed for if we are to offer to pray for others. The training covers issues such as confidentiality so that those who are prayed for can know what they share stops with the people who pray with them - it goes NO further. It is also important that the praying takes place in a public place so that everyone can see it is not quirky, odd or strange and also it underlines that individual prayer for one another is a perfectly normal activity within the life of the church. Members of the team are available after our Sunday 10.30 service. (Prayer Ministry Team members can click here to check your duty day.) OUR PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM If you are interested in being a part of the prayer ministry team, or if you have any queries or concerns around this issue, please have a word with Dermot Thornberry, Jane Anderton, John Anderton, Susan Gibb, Sue Hamilton, or Stan Westmoreland.
"Prayer is a serene force
at work within human beings, stirring them up, transforming them, never allowing
them to close their eyes in the face of evil, of wars, of all that threatens the
weak of this world. From it we draw energy to wage other struggles - to
enable our loved ones to survive, to transform the human condition, to make the
earth a fit place to live in." WE GATHER AROUND THIS TABLE FOR PRAYER See also our Prayer Fellowship and Worship index pages. Click to read a Prayer for the Month.
